Notes
|
I encountered a few
imperfections in this briar toward the final stages of shaping, the
largest being about 1/8 inch (3 mm) long by about 1/16 inch (1.5 mm)
wide.
These imperfections were more two-dimensional in nature and originally
appeared more like discolorations than anything. But I chose to stain
this pipe fairly dark, which covered the imperfections fairly well.
They did not show up in any of my photographs, but if you get the light
just right, you can see them.
Also, because of the eye-shape of the stem and shank, I opted to leave
about a thousandth of an inch of space where the stem appears to meet
the face of the Corian decorative ring in order to prevent the stem
from scuffing the ring when the stem is turned during removal.
If the buyer chooses, I can seat the stem down flush, but he will have
to be a lot more careful to avoid scuffing the Corian ring.
If it were me, I would prefer to have that tiny little bit of
"wiggle room" there, as it is not visible unless you get the
light just right and you are looking at just the right angle.
